The opposition is demanding swift investigations into the gruesome murder of a motorcycle taxi operator, barely days after he allegedly led protests in Lilongwe against new regulations for the business.
During the protests, the motorbike taxi operators contested the government’s resolve to impose a K250,000 penalty on anyone operating an unregistered motorcycle.
They insisted that they do not have other means of generating income and that barring them from the trade would only promote criminal activities.
Raising the matter in parliament yesterday, Democratic Progressive Party legislator for Chitipa South Welani Chilenga demanded speedy action and answers on the murder from the government.
