A 24-year-old youth is battling for his life after sustaining nearly 80 per cent burn injuries on Sunday when he was set on fire allegedly by his friends following a dispute with them over his affair with a local woman.
As per reports, the youngster has been identified as Ankamma Rao, a resident of Nelaturu village in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. He was in a relationship with a young woman, who lives in the same village. He and some of his friends used to have frequent arguments over his relationship with the woman.
“On Sunday, he was seen having drinks with his friends, and while he was in an inebriated stated, they allegedly doused him with petrol and set him ablaze,” a report published by The Times of Indiastated.
Locals, upon hearing his shrieks, rushed to spot and put the fire off. He was then dashed to a hospital for treatment. Doctors said he has sustained around 80 per cent burns and his condition was critical when he was brought to the medical facility.
A case of attempt to murder under IPC section 307 has been registered. Investigators suspect that the provocation for the crime was Rao’s relationship with the local woman.
